Autoregressive Harmonic Analysis of the Earths Polar Motion Using Homogeneous International Latitude Service Data
نویسنده
چکیده
The homogeneous et of 80-year-long (1900-1979) International Latitude Service (ILS) polar motion data is analyzed using the autoregressive method (Chao and Gilbert, 1980), which resolves and produces estimates for the complex frequency (or frequency and Q) and complex amplitude (or amplitude and phase) of each harmonic component in the data. Principal conclusions of this analysis are that (1) the ILS data support he multiple-component hypothesis of the Chandler wobble (it is found that the Chandler wobble can be adequately modeled as a linear combination of four (coherent) harmonic components, each of which represents a steady, nearly circular, prograde motion, a behavior that is inconsistent with the hypothesis of a single Chandler period excited in a temporally and/or spatially random fashion), (2) the four-component Chandler wobble model "explains" the apparent phase reversal during 1920-1940 and the pre-1950 empirical period-amplitude relation, (3) the annual wobble is shown to be rather stationary over the years both in amplitude and in phase, and no evidence is found to support the large variations reported by earlier investigations, (4) the Markowitz wobble is found to be marginally retrograde and appears to have a complicated behavior which cannot be resolved because of the shortness of the data set.

Effects Analysis of Frozen Conditions for Spacecraft Relative Motion Dynamics
The purpose of this rersearch is to analyze the effective application of particular earth orbits in dynamical modeling of relative motion problem between two spacecraft. One challenge in implementing these motions is maintaining the relations as it experiences orbital perturbations (zonal harmonics J2 and J3), most notably due to the Earth’s oblateness. Certain aspects of the orbital geometry c...
متن کاملThe analysis of a Beam Made of Physical Nonlinear Material on Elastic Foundation Under a Harmonic Load
ABSTRACT: A prismatic beam made of a behaviorally nonlinear material situated on nonlinear elastic foundation is analyzed under a moving harmonic load moving with a known velocity. The vibration equation of motion is derived using Hamilton principle and Euler Lagrange equation. The amplitude of vibration, circular frequency, bending moment, stress and deflection of the beam can be calculat...
متن کاملEmploying Internal Flexible Wall as Mass Absorber in Tanks Subjected to Harmonic Excitations
The possibility of employing internal wall as mass absorber in rectangular water storage tanks subjected to harmonic ground motion excitation is investigated in this paper. Internal walls are used in these tanks usually for service performance purposes, which could be used as mass absorber to control seismic demand on tank's exterior walls. Derivation of the response of the coupled system inclu...
متن کاملVibration Analysis of a Nonlinear System with a Nonlinear Absorber under the Primary and Super-harmonic Resonances (TECHNICAL NOTE)
Abstract In vibratory systems, linear and nonlinear vibration absorbers can be used to suppress the primary and super-harmonic resonance responses. In this paper, the behavior of a nonlinear system with a nonlinear absorber, under the primary and super-harmonic resonances is investigated. The stiffnesses of the main system and the absorber are cubically nonlinear and the dampers are linear. M...
متن کاملPredictability of the Earth's Polar Motion
The numerical prediction of the Earth's polar motion is of both theoretical and practical interests. The present paper is aimed at a comprehensive, experimental study of the predictability of the polar motion using a homogeneous BIH (Bureau International de FHeure) data set for the period 1967-1983. Based on our knowledge of the physics of the annual and the Chandler wobbles, we build the numer...
